Arabian Delights Buffet at Diamond Hotel's Corniche

Arabian Delights Buffet at Diamond Hotel's Corniche

Every Tuesday night, Diamond Hotel's Corniche offers a conquest-worthy collection of Arab cuisine aptly named Arabian Delights. The buffet selection is not, however, limited to just this specific cuisine. There are also Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Indian, and Japanese favorites to name a few.

Corniche highlights the famous dishes that Filipinos have grown accustomed to given the numerous Middle Eastern restaurants that have mushroomed over the years. I, for one, cannot resist a good kebab, kofta, and shawarma. They have an acquired taste factor attached, but, I must admit, those rich, aromatic, and powerful dishes are delicious!

Here are a couple of what we had at Corniche:

Charcuterie

I always start with this one. Honestly, this selection of fine preserved meats is enough for me. I will happily go home extremely satisfied with just these. My favorite is the saucisson sec with hazelnut. I smother a bit of mustard paste just for an additional tasty tang.

You can create your own mezze with Corniche's selection of pita and flat breads with different types of traditional dips ~ hummus being at the pinnacle. I personally like baba ghanoush better than hummus because of its distinct smoky flavor; plus, I prefer eggplant over chickpeas. Tzatziki, with it's deliciously pungent taste, is another great sauce not just for breads but for meats as well.

Shawarma Station

This is definitely not your average shawarma! Well-marinated premium juicy meat with crisp edges mixed with various add-ons and wrapped in toasted, slightly pliable pita bread was definitely enticing. What's great apart from the slices being thick, delicious, and tender is the fact that they respect the axiom 'to each his own', meaning, you can create your own version. You can even unleash your creative prowess by adding non-traditional shawarma toppings. Hubs went for the all-meat shawarma doused heavily with yogurt garlic sauce. Yawn.

fish fillet samke harra Arabian Delights Buffet at Diamond Hotel's Corniche
Fish Fillet with Harra Sauce

Soft, flaky fish fillets enlivened with spicy harra sauce and topped with loads of peppers and cilantro. Everything with cilantro for me is good, and this was another dish that solidifies that personal belief. The spice level had just the right kind of bite that stimulates your palate, but not enough to make you worry about a heartburn attack.

lamb biryani Arabian Delights Buffet at Diamond Hotel's Corniche
Lamb Biryani

A fragrant biryani with succulent chunks of lamb, cashew, raisins, and cilantro. The grains were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I like cashew and I like raisins, but not with cooked rice, so I just removed them. To devour both with the biryani is a procured preference I've yet to develop.

Lamb Kofta

There is a gastronomic jolt in every buffet. You know, that particular dish that drowns out the rest? This was it for me. The lamb kofta balls amply sauced with mild and even slightly sweet vegetable curry were tender and moist straight to the core. Truly delicious!

Whole Steamed Fish with Preserved Lemons and Exotic Herbs on Seafood Rice

I love a one-meal dish such as this one. Let me rephrase that, I love a delicious one-dish meal such as this one. The combination of fish and rice is something I can't resist especially when the pairing is flecked with bold herb flavors. Let me give you a sound sage buffet advice: this is very filling, so if you plan on eating all the dishes {then going back for seconds}, just get half of a large spoonful first.

Baked Salmon with Middle Eastern Spices

The distinct taste of Middle Eastern spices vivified this huge block of salmon. The flavors hugged the meat well. However, this was a little bit on the dry side.

Garithes Yiouvetsi

The prawns lying on top of tomato sauce are baked and sprinkled with feta cheese. Yen {The Tummy Traveler and my partner in crime} told me to get this with so much gusto that I immediately checked what the fuss was all about. From the first forkful, I immediately understood why. This was another winner from the Arabian Delights buffet.

baklava Arabian Delights Buffet at Diamond Hotel's Corniche
Baklava

A must-try at Corniche's Arabian Delights Buffet! The multi-layered sweet pastry with nuts contains the right amount of syrup that didn't seep through, maintaining a good crunch and flaky texture. These would be excellent if topped with a little whipped cream just before devouring.

A sweet chiffon cake made with almonds. It's dense yet still fluffy, flavor-packed, and hearty.

shot glass desserts Arabian Delights Buffet at Diamond Hotel's Corniche

Diamond Hotel is one of those establishments that does things right when it comes to dessert. Having said that, do not ignore the shot glass desserts, the ice cream bar, plus the truffles and pralines as well. They have sugar-free versions much to my elation.
