I was nominated recently to create a list of my favorite books by a good friend over on Facebook. The Great Gatsby is part of that list. I think I was 17 when I first read the book. I fell in love with the story, Jay Gatsby, and his mansion. When you're young and your what if thinking is on the flighty side, this book will feed your brain gloriously.

The Sands Point village mansion above is reckoned as the inspiration for Jay Gatsby's. Others say that Gatsby's mansion was patterned from the Beacon Towers. Fact or fallacy, I think this house is remarkable. It was apparently built in 1911, but was eventually demolished in 2011. I hate it when old, beautiful structures are destroyed.

You can check out more amazing images of the house here. The house is marvelous even in its dilapidated state.
