Yabu House of Katsu Revisited

It's a great privilege to be invited to try out new dishes in a restaurant but it's downright exuberance when you know that the restaurant serves good food. Such was the case of my lunch invitation at Yabu House of Katsu.

My plus 1 (sister) and I were grinning like Cheshire cats from the thought of what's to come. When we got there (15 minutes past twelve noon), the place was already swarming with people which didn't surprise me at all given their history. More were waiting outside to be seated.

Denise, Yabu's Brand Manager, warmly greeted us and showed us to our seats. I would just like to note that she is very young and pretty! Makes me wanna drink her blood

So, Denise made some suggestions about what we should try that day. I went for the Seafood Katsu Set 2. The set includes a huge piece each of  fresh seafoods (salmon, black tiger prawn, crab, and oyster) plus unlimited Koshihikari rice, shredded cabbage, miso soup, Japanese pickles, slices of fresh fuits, and tartar sauce.

The seafood were coated lightly with fresh Panko (Japanese breadcrumbs). The seafood katsu were perfectly espoused with the subdued taste of the tartar sauce. You can try to be bold and dip the deep fried seafood in the katsu sauce. It's good either way.

There were two that made me forget my name from this set - Hiroshima oyster and the Japanese black tiger prawn. Gawd, they're good! The oyster meat was big, plump, firm, and juicy!

Crabs have swooned me ever since I can remember. I am deeply in love with the crustaceans. My heart beats harder for every crab dish just like this one - Creamy Crab. The taste is exquisite and the filling had the right kind of texture and consistency.

Another superstar in the seafood menu is this gigantic scallop (Hokkaido as I was told). One bite from this will be enough for you to well up and utter the words 'this is good' continuously like a prayer. The breading was not overpowering so the fresh sweet taste of the scallop pops in every bite.

3G (my sister) ordered  the Hire (pork tenderloin) Katsudon Set. This tender deep fried pork cutlet lies on a bed of steamed Koshihikari rice dribbled with a miso-based sauce that is mildly sweet and salty. This tasty one-dish meal is topped with thin shreds of nori, bonito flakes, and a sunny side-up egg.

Given its size and add-ons, this meal is very filling. Even so, 3G did not have a hard time cleaning up her bowl. She kept giving me the dammit-i-don't-wanna-share look the few times I reached over to try this dish.

While you're momentarily entranced by the goodness of your Yabu dishes, don't pass up on the chance to devour this delicious combination (shredded cabbage + sesame dressing) please.

DISCLAIMER: I am not affiliated in any way with Yabu House of Katsu Philippines. After I paid for the meal, I was told that the meal is on them so the payment was voided. I would have ordered more had I known earlier that it's for free. *wink*
