Judy Garlands' Dorothy Dress Was Sold For Almost Half A Million Dollars!

The Wizard of Oz was the very first LaserDisc {for the fetuses, LD's are like DVD's but bigger} my mother bought because she knew how much my sister and I love the movie. I wanted to be so much like Dorothy, go to Oz, and be friends with the weirdest and nicest creatures on earth! Her dress and slippers were the things that made me envy her the most. I wanted them so much!

Well, apparently, someone beat me to it. Sure. Judy Garland's famous Dorothy blue gingham dress was auctioned by Julien's Auction House last weekend and fetched a staggering $480,000! The buyer remains anonymous. So, for now, let's pretend that the buyer's me, yes?

The dress was made by MGM costume designer extraordinaire, Adrian Greenberg for the 1939 musical fantasy.

The auction for the iconic dress was done at an appropriate time - just before Thanksgiving! The Wizard of Oz is traditionally shown yearly in the US during Thanksgiving.

Dorothy's Original Ruby Slippers from Wizard of Oz

Well, I still have a shot at Dorothy's Ruby slippers! Who needs that dress anyway. It's probably faded, smelly, and moth-ridden. Bitter! Plus, unlike the ruby slippers, the dress doesn't have any magical ability.

Onward and Upward!
