Tully's Handcrafted Beverages

Tully's Coffee Signage at The Fort

The other Seattle-based coffee shop, Tully's, has found its way to the shores of Manila and has slowly creeped in the hearts of caffeine lovers since its debut in the third quarter of 2011.

The specialty-coffee retailer was established in 1992 by the now retired company's chairman, Tom "Tully" O'Keefe. Tully's differentiates itself from the mega-chain Starbucks by offering slow-roasted coffee. The process of slow roasting brings in a stronger but sweet flavor and reduced acidity.

Ghirardelli Intense Dark Mocha at Tully's

My boys and I went to visit the Mc Kinley Park Residences branch the other night for some caffeine fix for me and cocoa fix for them after a heavy dinner. We never fail to visit this branch whenever we're in the area.

Tully's do serve great beverages but we rarely visit Tully's due to the branch's proximity. We would visit it more often if only there's a branch nearer to where we reside. That's the difference between them and Starbucks. Starbucks goes to the consumers while Tully's is (currently) the other way around.

Tully's different cup sizes

I ordered my usual Tully's drink, Ghirardelli Intense Dark Mocha, while my boys got the Kids Cocoa in different sizes.

The Kids Cocoa is all right. Not as rich as one would expect it to be, but still good.

The Ghirardelli Intense Dark Mocha, on the other hand, is truly a class on its own. It's the kind of drink that will haunt (in a really good way) your dreams for days! The best part is when you get to the bottom of the cup where all the melted Ghiradelli dark chocolate are! Sinfully good!

Tully's Signature Chocolate Cake

Hubs is a coffee despiser; but inspite of, he's still fond of going to coffee shops because of the pastries they offer. He ordered a slice of Tully's Signature Chocolate Cake which is truly wonderful. Deep moist chocolate cake that serves as a perfect partner to every cup of coffee. The coffee brings out the flavor of the chocolate.  Delicious!

The play area of Tully's makes it the most kid-friendly coffee shop in the city. Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, UCC, and all the others have stores that are conducive for business meetings and for students studying but rarely for kids. This feature of Tully's is very much appreciated by parents like me.

I hope that Tully's will open new stores by 2013 and I hope one or two of them will be a few short steps from our home.
