Google is calling on you to take action! The company launched a new campaign that tackles on the sensitive Internet regulations issue called #freeandopen.
Simple words {"Love the free and open internet? Tell the world's governments to keep it that way."} that conveys a strong message was added by Google to its homepage. This message is linked to a page where one can take action and pledge his/her support for a free and open internet.
Vint Cerf, Google's VP and Chief Internet Evangelist, expresses his concern regarding the possible restrictive amendments on the treaty during the ongoing United Nations' International Telecommunication Union {ITU} conference in Dubai.
According to Cerf, the "free and open net is under threat. Some 42 countries filter and censor content
out of the 72 studied by the Open Net Initiative."
It has been reported that the Internet blackout that happened in Syria was what triggered Google to launch the said campaign. "Internet access completely
cut off in Syria. This is why a #freeandopen Internet is so important", Google tweeted last November 29.
