Smoky BBQ Ribs at RUB Kapitolyo

We were looking for a place to get a decent barbecue the other night because my boys were jonesing heavily for some grilled meat. The bad traffic along EDSA {what else is new?} discouraged us from heading towards the BGC area. Hubs suggested that we should go to RUB at Kapitolyo instead. Our friend have been egging us non-stop to try the place since mid part of last year. Well, here 'ya go, W! We finally did!

I frequented the Kapitolyo area when I was still in high school because my best friend used to live there. It's been more than two years since I've last visited the place and was really amazed by all the developments! Food joints are all over the place! Kapitolyo is yet another undoubting attestation to Pinoys' love for food.

When we got to RUB, the area was already chock-full of eager munchers. There was a bit of a wait, but we didn't mind. I took the time to take photos of the menu and talk to our fellow waitees.

The place is relatively small, but well designed. They really made use of every space. Our kids were very much entertained by the vintage posters of late greats such as Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and Bob Marley, to name a few. They love historical facts...a lot!

Deep fried onion rings at RUB

We already pre-ordered while waiting for our table, so, we didn't wait that long for our food once we got seated. First up was a basket of deep fried Onion Rings with Aioli dip. We like that the onion rings were coated with batter instead of bread crumbs. It was tasty, but the onions were a bit thin. It would've been better if they were thicker. The rich, creamy, garlicky dip complimented the onion rings really well!

We ordered RUB's Family Brunch {Ribs + 3 sides} because it says "serves 4" {just about right for our family size} on the menu. When the dish was finally served, we were a bit taken aback by how big it was! The slabs were huge, but thin.

RUB's ribs were unbelievably good! They were tender, moist with a perfect blend of sweet and salty smokey flavor. I don't know how long they marinated the meat and what the marinade contained, but they sure did a good job with it! It seeped right through the meat making every bite divine! The flavorful sauce upped the finger-lickin' goodness of the ribs!

It garnered a lot of compliments from all four of us while we were heavily chomping down on our ribs like hunger-stricken carnivores. Classy!

Among the three side dishes that we chose for the Family Brunch, the Garlic Spinach and Mushroom was the one I liked best. I even ordered an extra bowl {PhP 85} of that specific side dish because the serving that came with the ribs was too small for me.

A pitcher of cold iced tea at RUB Ribs & BBQ Kapitolyo

Their House Blend Iced Tea is really good too! They serve it by the pitcher. A pitcher serves four, but in my case, one.

Fried Oreos with Vanilla Ice Cream

For dessert, my boys ordered these Fried Oreos with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was fair, but nothing out of the ordinary. We originally wanted to try the Crème brûlée, but, they unfortunately ran out of it. We'll surely go back to RUB for that one!

And of course, my meal will never be complete without a steaming cup of coffee!
