One of our {best ladies and I} favorite gastro adventure back in college was to go look for the most delicious sisig in the metro. Sisig - for those unaware - is a Filipino dish made from pig's head and liver. It sounds disgusting, but all of that will change when you take your first bite. Actually, a whiff would be enough.
A friend of mine likes her sisig with mayonnaise, another with raw egg. I like mine simple, delicious and uber crunchy and no one does it better than Dencio's.
I had lunch with fellow food enthusiasts at Dencio's Bar and Grill located at Capitol Hills Golf & Country Club. It was my first time to go the said branch and was completely smitten by the place! To see that many trees in the metro is something to really be in awe about.
Eating good food with this view? Yes, please!
Crunchy Kwek-Kwek PhP 139 |
We started off with a beloved Pinoy streetfood: Crunchy Kwek-Kwek. Deep fried quail eggs covered with delicious batter mixture and dipped in a concoction of vinegar, chopped onions and chili pepper. For added texture, they tweaked the usual covering with crunchy batter strings. If you have a penchant for wonton chips, you'll love this one!
I've always wondered if the term "kwek-kwek" is a patois for "quack quack". Pinoys are very good at playing with words like "apir" which is really "up here". Paging linguistic geniuses! Your expertise are much needed in this highly educational premise.
Crispy Chicken Skin PhP 129 |
What I love most about Dencio's Bar and Grill's Crispy Chicken Skin is it's lack of grease. Delicious! As my grandmother would always say: "Fried food that's not greasy is healthy". She lived to the ripe age of 98, so I really take her wise words into consideration.
Asparagus in Garlic PhP 175 |
This is truly an exquisite version of Asparagus In Garlic! Crispy yet tender asparagus spears with rich oyster sauce and sprinkled with toasted garlic bits. Like!!!
Nilasing na Hipon sa Taba ng Talangka PhP 185 |
Anything with talangka {varuna crab} fat is glorious, and this Nilasing na Hipon sa Taba ng Talangka is no exception! Fresh shrimps bathing in sinfully delicious crab roe! A little of the rich sauce is enough to make a steamed rice come alive. But if you've got the much needed arterial endurance for this dish, then I suggest that you go hardcore.
Barbeque Bilao PhP 1,330 |
If you're going to Dencio's Bar and Grill with your family, I suggest that you try the Grand Bilao Feast {Krispy Pata Bilao or the Barbeque Bilao}. It's a massive hodgepodge of delicious food that serves 4-5 persons.
Daing na bangus, chicken kebab, pork bbq, crispy tanglad na manok, nilagang gulay at bagoong, misua soup, ampalaya at nata atchara, misua soup, 1.5L CocCola and inasal rice comprises the Barbeque Bilao {above}.
Krispy Pata Bilao {below} consists of misua soup, chicken satay, crispy chicken bbq, sinugbang bangus, nilagang gulay at bagoong, ampalaya at nata atchara, sinigang rice {winner!}, 1.5L CocCola and of course, crispy pata.
Krispy Pata Bilao PhP 1,690 |
Isaw Sisig is something new to me. It was the first time I've tried such dish and it will definitely not be the last. If you have a knack for sisig with mayonnaise, you'll love this one. I didn't like it so much when paired with rice though. I still like their original sisig for that.
Krispy Sisig PhP 209 |
Save the best for last! Dencio's Bar and Grill's pièce de résistance is the Krispy {Pork} Sisig. I'm salivating while writing this. It's a wonderful combination of texture and flavor. It's a truly magnificent dish that can make one feel proud about Filipino cuisine. An enhancer {soy sauce} is not needed for this one. It's already epic as it is. Extra rice, please!
