Cinq Dessert Boutique: Desserts to Impress

I can do without chocolates forever, but never cakes. A week without a slice {or two, maybe five} is complete torture. I would gladly skip an appetizer and an entrée for a slice of cake. I do that often, especially when I want to cut down on calories. That's just how I do it. No copying, please.

Cinq Dessert Boutique

A little dessert boutique in Makati that is a total nirvana for someone like me: Cinq {French for 'five'}. France-educated and US-trained pâtissier, Angela Villoria Tolentino, named it so because of the five major ingredients in pastry making - sugar, flour, eggs, cream, and butter.

Cinq boasts of these distinct points that are pretty much rare these days: they stay away from hydrogenated fats and ready mixes. More joy, less guilt, yes? Also, each piece is created with utmost precision, making them works of art.

The cake display fridge houses the Aurore and Ligaya {two of Cinq's much adored products that placed them on the fourth spot at UTT last year} and a few more beautiful sweet creations. Each dessert has a mini version of the typical full-sized ones.

A lustrous, velvety chocolate miroir glaze encapsulates a light chocolate and orange mousse plus almond meringue. I appreciate the fact that this entremet's not cloyingly sweet. It's well-constructed, and the components complemented each other really well.

Lexi Strawberry {cheesecake mousse with diced strawberries, strawberry coulis, and almond dacquoise} is delicately creamy and slightly tart, not to mention, visually appealing.

The cheesecake, diced fruit, mango/passionfruit coulis layers built atop a crumbly crust was moist and deliciously creamy. This rectangular sweet block serves up to twelve persons.

A new addition to Cinq's repertoire of succulent desserts is the Rose. Right in the center of the blush pink dome with blissful texture is a chunk of pomelo; a refreshingly {mildly} sweet entremet very much worthy of try.

This caramel pecan tart is extraordinary! This and the Monica {dark chocolate and caramel mousse} are my favorites. The chewy, sweet caramel filling provided an amazing bed for the crunchy pecans. Since this is very sweet, I only eat one small slice per meal. From the fridge, I heat this up a little - just enough to slightly melt the filling. Delicious!
