There are a dozen of reasons to visit Kettle at Shangri-La; the strongest of which is their much-raved fried chicken. The rest is for the extraordinary range of good comfort food. The menu, crafted by Chef Chiloy Santos, is not a study in contrast; just simple and delicious dishes with huge portions. Just the way I like it.

Clam Chowder PhP 229 |
The consistency is faultless as well as the taste. It's very soothing and definitely devoid of being pap-like or a floury texture. The rich, aromatic soup - composed of onions, potato, and fresh seafood - fills a large sourdough bread. None of us touched the bread after we're done with the delicious liquid. Bread bowl chowders are fine for those who are very much into breads; but I think it would be better if they can have a without option someday soon.

Pork and Potato Strips PhP 339 |
A mountain of crispy fried potato strips, crunchy pork belly, and red pepper - all of them harmonized. This impressive appetizer is served with aioili sauce. This is definitely more than your average deep-fried frites seasoned with salt. It's a very tasty appetizer with a quantity that can be shared by a family of three {even 5, probably}.

Smoked Salmon Salad PhP 259 |
The Smoked Salmon Salad is an amalgam of beautiful, fresh and light ingredients. Mixed greens, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, herbed croutons, and Norwegian salmon slices that are all perfectly dressed with dill ranch.

Kettle Grilled Four Cheese PhP 329 |
A childhood staple just got better! Gruyere, fontina, and cheddar are carefully heaped in between thick slices of English loaf finished with grated parmesan peppered on top. Additional wow factor to this messily good sandwich is the sweet tomato jam.
Taste and juiciness are the key notes of this burger creation for me. Smoked white cheddar, caramelized onions, lettuce, onion, and horseradish dressing accompanies the delicious patty.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken PhP 519 |
With excellent fine tunings and seasoning, devouring Kettle's pièce de résistance - Buttermilk Fried Chicken - was a palate-pleasing experience. The serving size is dizzying. It's big enough for two adults {or three kids}. The meat is unbelievably soft and juicy. A little drizzle of both cajun honey and country gravy leaves a distinct impression in each and every bite!

Australian Lamb Adobo PhP 449 |
This is a very good salute to a Filipino favorite. The meat is teemed with superb flavors all the way through, not to mention extra tender. A spoonful of the truffled mushroom brown rice makes you wish that the dish will not end. I'd have to pick this one as my favorite amongst the mains we stuffed ourselves with. The patriotic factor is part of my reason, yes; that and my adoration for cooked rice.

Steak and Marrow PhP 2,589 |
Huge prime aged rib eye paired with herb-crusted bone marrow. The rib eye is seasoned well but it was not as tender as I hoped it would be. The marrow was satisfying enough.
A straight-up dish with a rich flavor. It's a very simple dish {comprised of spaghetti, truffle cream, fried basil, and grated parmesan} done to perfection.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake PhP 189 |
The big serving sizes of the mains and appetizers extends to the desserts; specifically, the cakes. They have a wide array of desserts made to satisfy two. This Pineapple Upside Down Cake {soft, buttery cake flipped upside down to reveal caramelized pineapple chunks} and the Caramel Cake are the ones I like best. Delicious with the right kind of sweetness is what this dessert is.

Caramel Cake PhP 189 |
Caramel cake purists will get a kick out of this one. The two-layered cake is separated by a caramel filling that adds a heavenly touch to each forkful. Not yet satisfied? There are bits incorporated within the sponge. Delicious! Simply delicious!
