Yumi Greenhills: A Hub of Serious Japanese Food

The Greenhills food scene continues to grow - from the old time favorites to pristine restos popping around the area. Back when pagers were cool and MTV was just for music videos {halt the reality shows already!}, food choices were very much limited. The few choices made up for the taste though. I miss Coney Island.

Promenade Extension, the newest addition to the already turgid Greenhills area, houses a Japanese resto that serves seriously good food: Yumi. The modernist Japanese restaurant is ensconced right above Munchtown.

Club Sashimi  PhP 650

The Club Sashimi is a feast for both the eyes and the belly!  Maguro, Sake, Saba, Kani, Ebiko, and Ebi constitute this festive plate. The fresh fleshed seafood were beautifully arranged with some greens and pickled ginger. The smooth, fatty, and buttery slices were irresistibly delicious.

Symphony Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Symphony  PhP 380

A symphony of heavenly flavors is what this is! No wonder this dish is one of Yumi's hot sellers. Spicy tuna, fried sushi rice, fish roe, shredded kani, and onions were gloriously chopped and balled into one delicious beauty. A definite must-try!

Unagi Foie Gras Sushi Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Unagi Foie Gras  PhP 350

The name cues the diner into something impressive; the taste gave a good follow-through. A thin slice of unagi capped with silky rich foie gras sits atop a vinegared rice. I abhor the fact that this will be a complete sporadic indulgence for me since my cholesterol level does not want to cooperate.

Sake Salmon Sushi Balls Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Sake Sushi Balls  PhP 205

A charming take on the usual sushi. I enjoyed this one very much as well. The lolly-styled sushi is composed of sake {salmon}, vinegared rice, cream cheese, and a crisped salmon skin affixed in the center.

Dynamite Roll, Ebiko and Uni Roll, Spider Roll, Ebi Tempural Roll Yumi Greenhills
Seven Sea Moriwase  PhP 320

Good quality makimonos {Dynamite Roll, Ebiko and Uni Roll, Spider Roll, Ebi Tempural Roll} of various texture and taste plus a very good presentation! Each has its own distinctly impressive sushi flavor. It's hard to play favorites with this one. Okay, I'm going for the Spider Roll.

Hamachi Carpaccio Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Hamachi Carpaccio

There are times when the food is just so enticing that I lose all sense of demeanor and etiquette. Case in point: the Hamachi Carpaccio. I was overwhelmed by my fondness for the paper-thin sliced section of the fish so much that I almost pounced on one even before everyone took a photo of it. #floggerproblems

It's full of flavor, velvety smooth, and tender! Too bad I had to share it with my fellow gorgers. *sigh of dismay* I'd gladly go back to Yumi even just for this one.

Chicken Teriyaki Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Chicken Teriyaki  PhP 235

Tender meat enclosed in a crunchy exterior that's tossed in savory teriyaki sauce. This is something that the kids will definitely love. It is good on its own, but I think it would be better if you pair it with gohan.

Hiyashi Chuka Ramen Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Hiyashi Chuka Ramen  PhP 275

I only have praises for the Hiyashi Chuka Ramen {chilled chuka soba noodles with strips of kani, nori, pickled ginger, tamago, doused with sesame dressing and peppered with roasted sesame seeds}, really. A medley of textures and a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and sour made this dish a big winner for me.

Soft Shell Crab Tempura Yumi Japanese Restaurant Greenhills
Soft Shell Crab Tempura  PhP 395

I have a long standing love affair with crustaceans, and I don't think I have enough strength to break-up with them. Soft shell crabs makes me happy...period. Lightly coated and seasoned, Yumi's version is nothing short of amazing for me. An intense, mildly sweet flavor comes through once you bite into the crispy outer layer. So good!

Have you tried YUMI yet? Thoughts?
