Few edibles have the enormous appeal better than a great steak. Well, for most people, at least. I'm not a true carnivore at heart, and would normally shy away from one if there are options available; but there are some beef that are step beyond what's considered to be delicious. To cut the long story short, I'm referring to that gem of a beef known as the Japanese Wagyu. Magosaburo serves a fine one that's just too hard to resist.
The interior can be summed up to this: a sophisticated industrial designed man cave. It's very masculine in all angles with loads of leather, wood, and industrial elements.
The Mago Wine Lounge on the third floor breathes elegant minimalism. I fell madly in love with the Chesterfield sofas.
Aside from the food, Magosaburo has bottles of fine wine. They have an option of wine pairings with certain menus such as the Kaiseki. The one above was a giveaway during their opening, if I'm not mistaken.
Mixed Sashimi Salad PhP 480
|
A salad of combined bright vegetables and freshly prepared high quality sashimi {hotate, sake, maguro} with a just-right tomato dressing was magnificently gratifying. The sashimis - topped with tobiko - were incredibly juicy, tender, and delicious.
Cream Cheese Tofu PhP 280 |
The Cream Cheese Tofu was a perfect meal kick-starter. This is not part of the Wagyu Lava Set, by the way. A thin smudge of the spreadable block of compressed soy milk over the bread, sprinkled with pink salt was a total palate-pleasing experience.
Beef Garlic Fried Rice PhP 380 |
Another dish that created a big impact on my palate is the Beef Garlic Fried Rice. My proclivity for the cooked grain was not the one that did it for me; it was the amazing taste and texture. The slightly damp rice retained its integrity and came out light and fluffy. The beef served its purpose well by clinging to the grains, flavoring it to a good level.
Lava Set ~ Complete Set Meal
Three Kinds Assorted Kim-Chi |
Magosaburo's Lava Set is a full-course meal good for two persons. You have two choices between each course except for the mains. The price will depend on the meat course that you will choose.
Served first was the Three Kinds Assorted Kim-Chi. The level of sourness was faultless. The combined flavors {salty, spicy, sour, and a tad bit sweet} were dynamic and very much appealing. The health benefits of Kimchi are something to take not of as well. Apparently, eating this fermented veggie everyday will help lower bad cholesterol.
Clam Soup |
This is a very comforting and aromatic soup. The thin and clean clam juice enhanced broth was intensely flavored. I think most Pinoys have an acquired taste for this soup being one of the staples in almost every home in this part of the world. The main thing that made this soup extra good was the freshness of the ingredients. The clams were not sparse in number, by the way.
Oxtail Omelet Japanese Style |
Tender shreds of oxtail enveloped by thick layers of slightly sweet, firm yet fluffy cooked egg was delicious. The combination is not unusual, but the flavors made it extraordinary.
Upscale was the relevant word when this wonderful salad arrived. Black truffle shavings amplified the appeal of the Luxury Salad along with its fresh ingredients. This was satisfying, but it left me dangling on the edge of confusion. I have to agree with Richard {Tales from the Tummy}, the Mixed Sashimi Salad was better.
Luxury Green Salad |
Assorted Japanese Wagyu Steak Palette PhP 6,200 |
This is one of the three choices for Magosaburo's Lava Set. Looking at its raw state, you can immediately tell that these will be unbelievably delicious given the impeccable freshness and the dense marbling.
Special Prime Ox Tongue 80gms |
The simplicity of the cooking draws out the maximum flavor of each meat. It's an old Japanese method of cooking called Ishi-yaki. The meat is grilled directly on top of a heated lava stone created by professional masons in Japan. The outcome was magnificent. I savored each bite like a junkie taking a good hit, except for the Ox tongue. I've never been fond of that anatomical structure.
Japanese Wagyu Short Ribs 100 gms |
You have the option of adding enhancers to your meat. Taking it in its bare state will not disappoint though. The buttery fat was slightly seared, bringing out its natural condition of epic tenderness. The taste is sensational and the texture is unforgettable; sinful, even.
