The Louis Vuitton Monogram is probably one of the most recognizable prints ever created. The flowers and letters pattern created by Georges Vuitton in 1896 has been transmuted over the years by artists such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Yayoi Kusama, and Stephen Sprouse.
The iconic print will be stylized again this year thanks to Louis Vuitton's Executive VP, Delphine Arnault, and Artistic Director for Women's Collection, Nicolas Ghesquière! The project named The Icon and Iconoclasts will feature six great originators - Frank Gehry, Christian Louboutin, Mark Newton, Karl Lagerfeld, Rei Kawakubo, and Cindy Sherman. Among all, I'm heavily anticipating Frank Gehry's work on this classic. I've long been fascinated by his creations and I'm excited to see the extent of his admirable peculiarity to bags {or trunks, maybe?}.
The limited edition pieces will be available starting mid-October of this year at selected Louis Vuitton stores worldwide. The price range will be from...wait for it...€2,000 to €4,000 according to Vogue. Anything can happen between now and mid-October, so we can all start dreaming. Remember to always set your sights very high.
Which of the six artists' work are you excited to see?
Hold on! Before you go, please like my The Mommist's Facebook page {on your left}. Thank you!
