I watched Great Expectations again awhile ago. I think I like it better now that I'm older. It's part of the top five best movies I've seen in my younger years. My top five changes yearly, though. #cognitivedissonanceisabech I read the book before I watched the movie...the Cliffs Notes version of it. Well at least I read it. That was way back in high school, and Charles Dicken's classic was part of our required reading.
So in the 1996 version, you have Alfonso Cuarón as director, Ethan Hawke as mancandy, Gwyneth Paltrow as Estella, Anne Bancroft {r-e-s-p-e-c-t} as Ms. Nora Dinsmoor, Robert de Niro as Arthur Lustig, and Francesco Clemente's artwork! All of Finn's {Ethan Hawke} pieces were done by the Italian artist.
Film critics believe that David Lean's 1947 version is still the best screen adaptation of Charles Dicken's esteemed novel. I have yet to see that one, so for now, I'm sticking to Alfonso Cuarón's Great Expectations. If you haven't seen it, illegally download one now or buy an original DVD! Kidding! No to piracy, of course!

Onward and Upward!
