Depending on whom you ask, Vikings Luxury Buffet can either be a dieter's nightmare or a gluttons dream. It has been serving a savory smorgasbord of practically any dish you can think of since it opened By the Bay. The pile it up on your plate joint opened another branch at SM Jazz Mall, and it is my favorite branch to date. The interior is beautiful and the selection is truly tasty! Actually, the choices are far lesser than the other branches, but I prefer it that way. Too many options overwhelm me. I end up eating less than I should. Yes, that is a problem for me.
The colorful blown glass chandelier is the focal point of the place while wall murals on the right side grabs your attention as well. The place - representing different European cities - has that air of elegance to it, but still very much approachable.
I don't start with breads. Actually, I skip it sometimes because it's very filling. I won't get to eat as much of the dishes that I like if I start with that. Go easy on the first thing you see. Save a lot of room for the dishes that matter. That's a sage advice, don't you think?
I start with the carvery. I don't know what your plan of attack it when it comes to buffets, but this one works for me just fine! I eat the steaks first, then I hit the seafood section next. Vikings' meat selections are delicious! I like the U.S. Angus Beef Belly and the Beef Entrecote the most. I only get two slices of each. Why? Well, it's a buffet; you can always go back for more. Secondly, pacing.
I fill my belly with sashimi and makimonos right after that. I particularly like the Vikings Special, Spicy Tuna, and Tuna Tempura Maki. For the sashimi, it's always salmon. Salmon, salmon, salmon!!
Other viands include the Braised Pata Tim, Binagoongan, Chicken Curry, Escabeche Isda, and much, much more! By this time, I was wolfing down rice like a drug-crazed maniac!
Nothing to see here. Just some greens.
Vikings' dim sum station boasts of pretty good offerings, too! Shrimp Har Gau is a personal favorite. I'd like to see Cheong Fan in their choices someday; preferably shrimp. Speaking of decapod crustaceans, the chef whipped up a sumptuous plate of Cereal Prawns! I was saving the space left in my belly for dessert when that came out, but that first bite of the tender prawn made me eat some more! Delicious!
Who can say no to an array of colorful sweets? No matter how full I am, I can't skip this part! It's a sin! Those Cherry Bombs are unforgettable, as well as, Vikings' crepe topped with two scoops {there are about a dozen flavors} of luscious ice cream! Don't ignore the shot glass desserts and the bars!
Towards the end of any buffet journey, one can be both sad and happy; happy because, well, you're stuffed well beyond your limit. Congratulations, by the way. Sad because you know you're gonna pay for all those calories in a few days. But then you remember that you're gonna have a birthday in two weeks time, and in Vikings, you get to eat for free for one month! Let the good food war commence...again!
