New York-based photographer Dane Shitagi has been photographing ballerinas en pointe outside of their 'natural habitat' for years, and the result is striking! Shitagi said that his aim was to put emphasis on the dancers rather than the poses. He has over a thousand images to date.
Ballerinas fascinate me a lot! They're so elegant despite the agonizing positions. Truly a great example of grace under pressure.
Confession: I studied ballet for about two weeks when I was six. I was the fattest one in the group! I didn't pursue it. I guess I just like fondue better than do a fondu. Looking at the shots of Dane Shitagi makes me want to give it a go again. I'm kidding! I'd bust a hip before I can do the basic poses.

Onward and Upward!
