Le Petit Soufflé: A Leisurely Lunch at the French-Japanese Restaurant

Le Petit Soufflé is a new French-Japanese restaurant born out of the creative brains of Chef Miko Aspiras and Kristine Lotilla - the same duo behind Scout's Honor. What I love about this place best is that instead of doing hardcore fusion dishes, they picked the special ones from both countries and refined them. They did it tremendously well, by the way. The dessert selection is amazing!! That's not at all surprising, actually. I mean, Chef Miko's there. It's a given.

The interior is very inviting! It's elegant but not flamboyant. It doesn't have that stiff vibe that I dread. Refreshing is the word that first entered my mind when I saw it. Old world elements combined with a few contemporary ones resulted in a lovely space.

Interesting interior details are peppered all over the place. I adore the wall of window shutters, the encaustic tiles, and the rolling pins hanging from the tree!

At Le Petit Soufflé, the chef's creativity is expressed in both the presentation and the taste of the dishes! A warming bowl of roasted Japanese sweet corn potage is boosted by salted caramel popcorn and shaved parmesan. It's lovely and delicious!

Le Petit Soufflé onion soup

A fantastic rendition of the classic French onion soup fortified with bacon, gruyère, and emmental made my day! I have to admit, this bowl doesn't belong to the inexpensive category, but the taste certainly makes up for the cost.

Le Petit Soufflé crispy ramen chicken

I think the kids will like this one best. The tender chicken cutlets are given some Japanese love by enveloping them with crispy shoyu ramen! It's served with short grain rice, cabbage slaw, and a choice of either tonkatsu-wasabi or buttery sesame sriracha sauce! I prefer the latter. Sriracha forever!!

Le Petit Soufflé vegetarian soba pasta

A charming treat even for the veggie-aversed! The soba noodles are flecked with roasted sesame seeds, shimeji eggplant, and zucchini.  It obtains a pleasant kick from the shoyu sauce.

Le Petit Soufflé mac and foie
Mac and Foie  PhP 625

This Mac and Foie combo is like getting a long bear hug from Johnny Depp! Three kinds of cheese bogarts this magnificent dish. It also has shimeji, crimini, and juicy slices of Hungarian sausage plunked beautifully on top. Oh, and then there are those hunks of heaven called foie gras. This dish and I, we're electric.

Le Petit Souffle's Squid Ink Rice can be my congenial compensation on days when traffic is terrible - which is every single day. It's that good! Chef Miko highly recommends this one. I do, too! Fresh seafood, shimeji, and scrambled egg blankets the ebony grains that has a really good chew. The richness of the combined flavors makes it quite a hearty lunch or dinner on its own. I'm kidding! You don't wanna miss the desserts!

Let's go to a low-cal packed one before we go back to regular programming. I truly enjoyed this one as much as the rest! The seared pink slices comes with a generous serving of veggies, shimeji, and tobiko. The whole thing becomes memorable once cloaked with the slightly heated sesame-wasabi dressing.

Le Petit Soufflé Strawberry Fruit Tea

The colorful carafe is such a great way to cool off in this blistering heat! It's such a refreshing citrusy and slightly sweet drink! As the name of the drink suggests, it's loaded with fresh strawberries, mint, slices of lime, and stalks of celery.

Le Petit Soufflé Valrhona Manjari and Mixed Berry Souffle Glace

You can't go to Le Petit Soufflé without trying, at least, two kinds of dessert. Chef Miko is really good at turning something into a prized treat. You can taste his passion in his creations. I've said it before and I'll say it again: they left me mute with pleasure starting with the Valrhona Manjari and Mixed Berry Soufflé Glace. This frozen dark chocolate Valrhona soufflé should be part of any must-try list! It's remarkably light, delicious, and was sweetened to perfection by the mixed berry compote.

I've never been a huge fan of chocolate {why? I don't know} but this creation is making me think hard of going towards the dark side. The bewitching silky piece is composed of layers of Valrhona chocolate starting with the Araguani 72% dark chocolate plus 100% awesomeness. You have to mix the vanilla bean crème anglaise sauce with the morsels of chocolate surrounding the mount for the ultimate experience.

Le Petit Soufflé Salted Egg Caramel Parfait
Salted Egg Caramel Parfait   PhP 220

Between the Matcha Parfait and the Salted Egg Caramel Parfait, it's the latter that got me swooning. The unique blending of flavors made all the difference. It's a large serving of vanilla custard base softee with salted egg custard, granola, caramel, and shards of peanut brittle! You know that feeling when you crave for something sweet when you had something salty? This one cures that dilemma. Don't worry, the salty part is barely noticeable. The whole thing leaves a first-rate aftertaste that I's craving for days after.
