Costa Coffee's Flagship Shop Opens in Eastwood

With the ever bulging list of coffee shops in Manila, it is no surprise that it is included in the 11 of the World's Best Cities for Coffee Lovers list. Another one recently started brewing in the Metro: Costa Coffee. It is considered as the leading coffee chain in the UK.

The first Costa Coffee in Manila is at the Eastwood Citywalk 1. The two-story coffee shop highlights its English roots by incorporating the Union Jack - from the cappuccino to the sofa - and the iconic red telephone box at the shop's entrance.

Brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa opened their very first Costa coffee shop in the heart of London in 1971. Costa now has 3,000 stores worldwide!

Unlike other coffee chains, Costa is famed for having only a single blend called Mocha Italia. It is a combination of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans. It is constantly tested for high quality by Costa's official coffee taster, Gennaro Pelliccia. The man {or a part of this man} is so valued by the company that they insured his tongue for £10 million!

Costa Coffee Eastwood Manila Philippines Flat White
Costa Coffee's superstar is the Flat White - a smooth florette is carefully poured over a shot of the Cortissimo! The result is a rich coffee with silky texture. It is delicious! I like it far better than their cappuccino, though that one is nothing short of good, too.

The Flat White only comes in a single size, and is priced at PhP 150.

One thing that makes coffee fun to drink is the art that comes with it! Costa Coffee's Cappuccino is topped with stencil cocoa art that depicts either the British culture or other cute characters. What I got was the Union Jack, but I saw a stencil cocoa art of the famed multi-level Routemaster bus being made for a fellow caffeine addict.

The food is more than decent at Costa starting with the Melted Swiss Cheese and Mushroom Sandwich! Aside from the aforementioned ingredients sandwiched in between halved flatbread, it contains roasted slices of red bell peppers.

Costa's breads and pastries are baked fresh daily; some at their commissary in Crowne Plaza and others are baked on-site {such as the croissants}.

Salted Choco Brownie and Salted Caramel Chip  PhP 70

Two of the Costa Coffee sweet offerings that I fancy are the Salted Choco Brownie and the Salted Caramel Chip Cookie. Both are extra chewy and not too sweet!

Since the Philippines can be hotter than a cup of Flat White 362.5 days per year, serving cold drinks is just apt. Because of that, Costa developed the Frostino's. It is available only in the Philippines for now. They are refreshingly yum! I like the Cafe Carmelia best.

Four more branches are expected to open by the end of the third quarter of this year. After Costa Eastwood is Costa Robinson's Place Manila. It will start brewing very, very soon! Have you tried Costa Coffee? Share with me some of your thoughts!
