KidZania and the McDonald's Burger Shop

So apparently, I've been pronouncing KidZania wrong all this time. It's Kid-zaaah-ni-uh not Kid-zay-ni-uh. You probably all know that. I'm the only one who doesn't. Anyhoo, however you pronounce it, there's one thing that's definite: it's a really fun place for both kids and adults!

The Mexican edutainment chain that was established in 1999 by Xavier L√≥pez Ancona is a taste of the big world for little people.  Kids 4 to 14 can enjoy dozens of make-believe scenarios that aim to educate and provide joy at the same time.

We went there on a Saturday, so an influx of visitors was expected. There are two shifts from Fridays until Sundays. We got the second shift which was from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Five hours is more than enough time for playing, right? I mean, the place is not that big. Wrong! I thought it was, too. Eight hours won't be enough either. Too much fun! More about the fun stuff later. Let's get you checked-in.

Step 1: Check-In

The world of fantasy starts at the entrance; it mimic's an airport's check-in area. Each visitor will get a bracelet upon checking-in. Take good care of that because tampered or damaged ones will cost you PhP 2,500.

Step 2: Buy Kidzania Passport

The KidZania passport {PhP 250} is optional, but if you want your kids to get more perks, one is needed. Every activity will earn him a stamp. From Naturalized Citizen Pazzport {above} your kid can advance to Distinguished Citizen Pazzport after 30 stamps and to Honorable Citizen Pazzport after 60. A 5% discount at the store and 2 extra KiDzos per activity are part of the perks, too.

Step 3: Get Kidzos

Go straight to the bank to get some KidZos! They can use it to buy stuff at the KidZania Department Store and the McDonald's Burger Shop. Unfortunately, they can't use it to buy food or buy anything at the gift shop.

Step 4: Eat and Learn

The McDonald's Create-Your-Own Burger Shop is now open! This is one of the most visited establishments! Here, kids will be tasked to create the McDonald's burger - real burgers, by the way - and enjoy them, too! Since they get to have a burger, the experience will cost them 15 KidZos.

Step 5: Enjoy the Wonderful World of KidZania!

The activities run the gamut - from being a pilot to an actor! God, I wish they have one for adults! You can go around with your kids or wait for them while they complete the task at the food establishments or at the parents' lounge.

Fire Department, Newspaper {Inquirer}, University {CEU}

I originally planned to just stay at one of the food establishments, but the place is so fun that I ended up exploring it myself!

My second boy's favorite is the KidZania Courthouse. He's inspired by Atticus Finch and the Rule of Law by Tom Bingham. I've lost count the number of times he went inside. I think he was able to portray all the roles!

Kids will have to queue up to get inside an establishment. For the courthouse, five kids are needed every 15 minutes. They will be briefed first before the session starts. Once it has started, the parents can come in and watch. It's amazing! The kids really got into their characters!

Kids get a chance to understand how it is to be a field reporter at the Philippine Daily Inquirer! They will interview different people, and once they're done they will get a copy of their very own newspaper! A lot of kids head over to St. Luke's Hospital for a stint as a surgeon or to take care of the babies.

Little firefighters heading back to the KidZania Fire Station after putting out the huge fire at the nearby hotel. I made a mistake by standing too close to the "fire." A little police officer saw me, placed the megaphone in front of my face and screamed, "Please stand back! It's not safe!" My bad.

You can also take the guided tour bus around the place with your kid. The bus leaves every 15 minutes, I think.

Check the Census Plaque right outside each establishment to know what it is, how much the kid's going to be paid, suggested age, and the capacity.

The CSI/Police Department is another favorite of my son. But unlike the courthouse, he only did a double take on this one.

KidZania is such a really fun place! I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. We're planning our next trip back, this time with the rest of the clan!

Oh by the way, there's just no way you'll get inside KidZania without a kid no matter how much you want it. You can scream and be really childish about getting through, but still, the answer will be no. This is the kids' world, and we are only mere spectators of it.
