Let me be clear on one thing first: I don't have a problem with healthy food. I wanna eat healthy food because I'm no spring chicken anymore; I just refuse to eat healthy food that tastes, well, 'healthy' {blunt translation: disgustingly bland}. Fortunately, Kitchen 1B creates dishes that are not only healthy; they're delicious, too! Those are two words I never thought I'd say in a single sentence.
But of course, these are just my words. You have to go there to understand what I am about to describe below. Skeptics will be imbued with doubt, naturally. It's okay. I feel you. I once was one.
Chef Marivic Diaz-Lim focuses more on healthier style of cooking and what she refers to as "Power Ingredients" that have immune-boosting properties which might help curb out certain illnesses. It's not the basic cardboard-tasting soup that will bring you to tears as you slurp along. And if you're wondering, yes, I ate a small piece of paper as a dare way back when, so I dare say that my comparison is pretty much on point.

Heirloom Tomato Soup |
We first got a shot of this nutrient-packed bowl of Heirloom Tomato Soup with Almond Herb Pesto Drizzle. I'm not gonna enumerate the nutrients of a tomato because I'm not a nutritionist. I'm just gonna sound like a dumb charlatan if I do. All I know is that it is pumped with loads of Vitamin C, and that this is one amazing soup! It's fragrant, light, and rightfully flavored - not acidy.

Grilled Prawns and Lentil Salad |
The great thing about Chef Marivic's dishes is that the rich factor is still very much evident. It is not tempered. Hallelujah to that! Take for example this Grilled Prawns and Lentil Salad. The balsamic vinaigrette, cilantro oil, and balanced seasoning gave it a punch that makes you forget that what you're eating is a chock-full of legumes. If you're legume-aversed, consider this as your first step into being a convert.

Kale and Quinoa Salad |
I've always been fond of pomegranate! This huge one came from Davao. Every fat pulp pops a sweet juice that pleasantly combines with watermelon chunks, heirloom cherry tomatoes, crispy parmesan, and honey-mustard lemon vinaigrette!

Turkey Burger |
Kitchen 1B's Turkey Burger is a great guilt-free version of the cholesterol filled original. I can eat this one thrice a week! That's a lot for me considering that burgers are not really my thing. The flavorful patty is topped with brie, cranberry compote {yes, yes, yes!}, covered with corn bread buns, and a side of sweet potato fries!

Grilled Pork Rib / Grilled Tenderloin |
This Grilled Pork Rib is...my...thing! The beautiful crisscross grill marks signaled me on how well they have prepared it. It didn't lie. It's stunningly soft and just downright delicious! They used a pro-biotic, hormone-free pork, walloped it with turmeric, yellow ginger, turmeric, and lemongrass. It comes with a substantial serving of cruciferous vegetables.
The Grilled Tenderloin is another crowd favorite! It's a huge hunk of tasty Australian grass-fed {my sixth hyphenated compound word *smh*} perched on top of a gob of mashed cauliflower.
Lamb Curry |
Okay, okay, this one is tops! I underestimated Kitchen 1B's Lamb Curry. I didn't know that it's gonna be so damn good! The curry factor is serious without being overpowering. I loved it with the salsa, fried plantain, basmati rice, and crispy papadum. For me, it's perfect.

Spring Barley Risotto |
Green is my second favorite color, but when I see lots of it in my food, it's a clear sign that what I'm about to eat screams 'MAKE NO MISTAKE! THIS IS A VEGETARIAN DISH!' Though I'm still not going full-on vegan anytime soon or ever, the Spring Barley Risotto turned out to be one superb healthy rendition. I didn't expect it to be such, but I was proven wrong...again.
