Aside from the gilded pillars, it's the amazing scent enveloping the air at the lobby that delights me whenever I visit Dusit Thani Manila. Seriously, I want that scent to be available in my home all day, every day. But of course, if you're gonna brave the traffic {it doesn't matter what day it is}, it'll take more than gold columns and a wonderful scent, right? I have a new reason to visit Dusit, and that is their buffet place called The Pantry.
Once you enter the lobby and take a huge whiff of that floral scent {just so you know, I'm not gonna let this one go}, turn right. That's where The Pantry is.
Cold cuts, salads, and blocks of cheese! There's a sandwich area here, too. You can ask them to create whatever your tummy fancies. They also have pre-made sarnies.
In this country, lechon is lechon. Even when it's bad, it's good. Just the thought of those crackly skin makes my mouth water. The only station I saw at The Pantry where people hurriedly cluster to get a hunk was, yes, the Lechon Station. That tanned pork has a good pull in us Pinoys that others will probably never understand......until they get a taste of it.
The Pantry's lechon is something to queue up for. It's really delicious! Both the skin and the meat are rightfully seasoned; just enough flavor to give way to the sauces. You can create your own sauce, by the way. I forgot my mixture, though. There's definitely garlic sauce in it. I love garlic!
Not to be missed are these Chicken Kathi rolls! Ask them to make a fresh one with extra, extra sauce. Killer!
The Seafood Station: Just like in other buffet places, you can ask them to cook your favorite seafood in the manner that pleases you - from chili garlic to sinigang.
I only allowed myself to have a small portion of the other dishes just so I could overindulge in the biryanis, basmati, and the buttered chicken masala. They're all fantastic!
The Pantry's dessert selection is beyond decent. The crepe samurai is pretty addicting. The doughnuts, churros, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and shot glass treats are really good, too!
Halal Certified
The Pantry, as well as the rest of the food outlets at Dusit Thani Manila, is Halal certified. The accreditation was issued by the Halal International Chamber of Commerce and Industries in the Philippines. Dusit Thani Manila is the first 5-star hotel in the Makati CBD to receive the Halal certification for 2016. They are also recognized by the global authority in Halal travel: CrescentRating.
You might be wondering why there is lechon if Dusit is Halal certified. There is a dedicated Halal kitchen, separate from the main kitchen, for food preps that's strictly Halal.
