SPOILER ALERT: Wolfgang's steak is the truth!
From what I've experienced, that statement is not an exaggeration. It is really delicious! I might hurt the feelings of all the other steaks that I've tried, but Wolfgang's was the best I've had in the Metro. Definitely. Without a doubt. Absolutely.
I've never tried Wolfgang's in the U.S. or even the ones in Japan, so just like you, I'm curious about its beginnings. Here's what I found out:
The steakhouse is
named after Wolfgang Zwiener, who opened his eponymous restaurant after having
worked as head waiter at the legendary Peter Luger’s steakhouse in New York for
more than 40 years. It was during those years where he gained extensive
experience in the dry aging process of USDA Prime quality beef as well as the
steak high temperature broiling preparation process—key elements which would
eventually evolve into Wolfgang’s unique philosophy for excellence.
Now let's move on to the meat of the matter. Wolfgang's Steakhouse offers strictly USDA Prime beef which are all imported from their slaughterhouse in Colorado. The meat are then immediately placed in an aging room {above} under a controlled temperature
and humidity environment for an average of 28 days.
Dry aging is a process
which enhances tenderness and flavor in beef. During the process, the beef’s
natural enzymes break down the connective tissue in the muscle which leads to
more tender beef. At the same time, moisture is evaporated from the muscle,
creating a greater concentration of beef flavor and taste.
Truth be told, I'm salivating and have a strong craving for their steaks while doing this post. It's really, really good!
Wolfgang's Steakhouse at Resort's World Manila has a solid list of wines which I forgot to take a photo of because I was already enjoying my Hot Torry. It's a Vodka-based cocktail with fresh tomato, cilantro, and bacon.
Tuna Tartare PhP 598 |
The Tuna Tartare is one of the eight appetizer variations at Wolfgang's Steakhouse. Instead of the usual minced version, this one comes with cubed tuna. I personally like this one better. It makes for a good bite along with a piece of toast.
Mixed Green Salad PhP 268 |
I barely felt the salad hit my belly because I was heavily anticipating the steak! I wanted to hightail my way to the glorious meat, but I also didn't want to miss out on the before creations. This was a light yet satisfying salad, though. I'm eager to try the Wolfgang's Salad next time around. I heard it was really something.
Beef Salpicao |
If you're heavy into meat, you may want to get the Beef Salpicao as a primer. It's a serving of well-seasoned and tender chunks of premium beef with enough garlic-ladened oil at the bottom to mop out with a piece of complimentary bread.
And just to give enough balance to the bovine force, we had Grilled Mahi-Mahi along with the Prime Rib. That was the Fish of the Day. It's an ample-sized, perfectly cooked, flaky piece of fish served with pico de gallo and guac.
There are 14 sides to choose from - from classic to something very Pinoy! We had the Creamed Spinach, Steamed Broccoli, and Mashed Potatoes. I like the Creamed Spinach the best. It's healthy, but still rich in taste. Each side can be shared by two to four people, by the way.
Here's the very Pinoy part: Steak Rice! Steamed white rice flavored with the juices of the steak is the 8th Wonder of the World. Yes, it makes me fat, BUT it also makes me very happy.
All hell broke loose when this delicious beast was placed on the table. Bear with me because the next statement will be a hemorrhage of glowing words to commemorate this fantastic meat! It's a 15-kilo, dry-aged {28 days}, agent of palatable pleasure, palate overlord, Prime Rib!
Every cut was so flavorful, extremely tender, and just overall amazing! Lord, this is great dry-aged meat!
Are they pricey? Well, that depends on who you ask. If you ask someone like Bill Gates, these are cheap. Me, however, I find them expensive. The price is directly proportional to the quality of the steak, however, and that is just fair for me.
