Change has come for Taal Vista Hotel's Veranda, and it is good!
Taal Vista Hotel makes room for the new while still embracing the historical pillars which they are known for. It's a great mash-up if you ask me. This makes the aforementioned hotel one of the most interesting ones in the country to date.
Veranda's facelift is not just superficial; it goes well beyond the interiors. The perfectly mismatched interior, by the way, is done by Aranda and Dalid Associates. It's a fresh coastal-like interior that brings in the relaxing aura of Taal Lake. I'm in love with the mismatched patterns and the rhombille tiling flooring!
It was a Sunday when we visited Veranda, so naturally it was packed with Manila dwellers and tourists.
Above is the Grilling Station. They have fresh seafood and meat choices right beside this which you can have grilled to your liking.
Veranda is the type of buffet I prefer. The selection is moderate but of good quality. That's the problem I have with big buffets sometimes. At the end of the day, I feel like everything tastes the same.
Tagaytay boasts of fine, fresh greens, and Veranda certainly took advantage of that! From the pre-mades, the Chicken Mascarpone tops my list. There's no shortage of dressing here to choose from, too! They make a pretty mean Pineapple Vinaigrette.
The Roasted Chuck Roll was a crowd favorite {middle}. No surprise there. The Pork Binagoongan, however, was a complete revelation. It's the best one I've had in my life, and I've had a lot! The balance of flavors was perfect, and there's a sweet finish to it that makes it addicting!
In my opinion, people are more critical about the food that they grew up with. My late Mom, for example, believed that all other Kare-Kare sucked; only hers was the best. It doesn't matter if a Michelin-starred chef cooked it. I'm kinda like that too, so if I had a good taste of a homegrown dish in a restaurant, I can't help but rave about it.
If I wasn't a blogger, I'm never gonna admit that Veranda's Pork Binagoongan is - what's that thing that kids say nowadays? - ah, TDF! It's better than mine, and that sucks.
I'm not going to visit Veranda just for that, of course! The rest of the dishes are well-made! I liked the Kare-Kare {sorry, Mom}, Pan-seared fish with Lemon Butter, Roasted Coffee Spareribs, Peri-Peri Chicken, and the Salmon Sinigang!!! Yes, that last one deserves three exclamation points.
My boys favored the Pasta Station over the Noodle Station. I liked both. The Shrimp-stuffed Squid Ink Ravioli with Pesto Sauce was a really good one.
The Kids Corner should be a standard in every buffet! This solves the parental dilemma of what the little picky eaters should try. There's Chicken Fingers in there, as well as Mac 'N Cheese and Sliders. The chafing dishes are placed low for easy reach! They can create their own sundaes, too!
Have you tried Veranda's Chocolate Crinkles? It's delicious! Not Asian Development Bank Crinkles kind of good, but it's marching towards that direction. There's a Cupcake Station, Crepe Station, and Shot-Glass Dessert Station right beside this one.
Just like I said on Instagram, kudos to Veranda for promoting the Philippine Culture! Guests are entertained by the Bughaw Folkloric Group every Saturdays and Sundays. I haven't seen Tinikling {traditional Philippine folk dance} performed in a long time, so this one truly made my day. Kudos also to Veranda's staff for an exemplary service.
