I've always dreamt of living in an original brownstone house - be it in New York, Philadelphia, or Chicago. I want something that has an interesting history, and then I will have it renovated into something that I can create new stories in!
The renovated brownstone house in New York above is a place I'd like to call my own. *heavy sigh* It is thoughtfully refreshed by Simpson Jacoby Architecture with contemporary notes, but still with much respect to the house's period. Along with Melissa Lee, they managed to transform a dark, outdated interior into a brightly poetic one. I love the colors, little details, sparse decor, the homey ambiance...you know where I'm going with this, right? I basically love everything about it!
Yes to a kitchen rightfully layered with different styles! That basket chandelier is an elegant surprise amidst a sea of casuals.
The home office/study is like a scene from a bygone era, complete with a rustic shelving unit that displays period pieces.
Have you seen a newly built home with a ceiling rose? Rarely is this done nowadays. Intricate details are replaced with smooth, minimalist {sometimes super cold} surfaces with little to no character at all. That's alright in some cases, but I still prefer wood carved moldings, appliques, corbels, etc. over those. They kill the dullness of a unicolored room.
What do you guys think about this brownstone home?
Onward and Upward!
