I've been looking for a quick, stress-relieving getaway since the beginning of January. I wanted to get my mind off things for a while before I get back into the game rebooted and ready! Fortunately, our weekend staycation at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila gave me all that and more!
We were given a deluxe room on the 35th floor, facing the Metrowalk area. The first thing that I noticed when we got in the room is its clever design. Check out that peepshow of a bathroom!
Okay, so depending on how great your imagination is, you can easily maximize the use of that glass partition. For example, you can easily see the television from the bathtub. If you're fond of watching your favorite shows while taking a bath, then this will be your go-to room at Marco Polo Manila.
This will be also be a convenience for moms who have little kids with no nannies. You can easily watch them while doing some tub relaxation time.
Too shy? Don't worry, there's a roller blind for privacy.
I forgot to take a photo of it, but the huge rain shower head is amazing! Unlike other rain shower heads that has some sort of vendetta on your skin, this one is gentle.
They don't scrimp on the toiletries, by the way. They have the standard essentials plus some extras.
When your system constantly craves for a hit of good caffeine, the free in-room Nespresso pods is something you'd appreciate a lot! I know I did. If you are in need of more caffeine, there's some complimentary tea and instant coffee located inside the drawer just below this.
In-Room Breakfast
Another thing to try at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is there in-room breakfast. It's more than just the standard food delivery. They exert a good amount of effort to make the guest feel special.
Inform any of the room service staff that you want to have an in-room breakfast the night before, what time you want it to be, and what kind of breakfast you want to have.
They will give you a call 30 minutes before they send your food up to ask for your specific preferences - your choice of juice, how you want the eggs to be cooked, what kind of pancake toppings you want, etc.
Our room service expert peppering the table with flowers petals.
They have different breakfast sets - from Asian to American. We chose the English Breakfast set. It comes with the following:
> Homemade pancakes or waffles served with banana, maple syrup, blueberry compote, whipped cream and nuts.
> Fresh fruit platter served with a cup of mango puree, green apple compote, or homemade yoghurt
> Three-egg omelet with Swiss cheese, mushroom, and tomato compote or two eggs cooked any way you want. The latter is served with either a mix of smoked salmon, hash brown, mushrooms, asparagus or bacon rashers, breakfast sausage, beans pot, and hash browns.
> Assorted bakery basket
> Assorted jams
> Coffee or tea
The whole thing is supposed to be good for one, but it can easily be shared by two! My staycation buddy and I were so stuffed! I especially liked the pancakes and the omelette.
The pancakes were thick and fluffy. Amp up those cakes with a hefty serving of maple syrup, blueberry compote, and a spoonful or two of whipped cream.
No omelette woes here. It's a rich yet light roll, generously filled with mushrooms, cheese, and tomato compote.
I know you've been thinking about the swimming pool since the beginning of this post. If you have kids, this hotel facility is, of course, a must. Marco Polo Ortigas Manila has an indoor pool located on the 22nd floor. It's the same floor as the fitness center. I didn't take a dip during our stay, but my boy said that the "water is calmingly warm". I believe there's also a hot tub spa at the far end.
What made our stay really special is the excellent service. I think we can all agree that not everyone who works in the hospitality industry is exactly hospitable, right? I've never had a bad experience at MPM. The staff go above and beyond. I think I can safely say that the repeat customer factor is definitely high here.
